In 2010, 6-time Billabong XXL winner Shane Dorian wiped out while surfing the infamous Northern California big wave break Maverick's, and the subsequent hold-down nearly killed him. In February of 2012, during one of the biggest swells of the winter, Dorian returned to face Maverick's again.
