Giant Scale P-47 Razorback has a bad day!
Ever had one of those days? As luck would have it, we had blue skies but a hellish crosswind for the opening day of 2013 "Warbirds Over Whatcom" at our Bell Air R/C Flyers club event.
There was a huge turnout of spectators who were anxious to see some flying and most of the pilots were grounded and were waiting it out in hopes the nasty crosswind would abate. (With good reason!)
Well, the wind didn't look like it was going to die down anytime soon so a few brave souls took their planes up so the spectators would have something to look at.
In this video, you can see Russ crabbing into the crosswind and fighting hard as he tried his approach. Unfortunately it got away from him and it looks like there wasn't enough power on and the plane lost too much airspeed. He wasn't the only casualty of the nasty crosswind and a number of planes went in, usually at the end of the runway because they were fighting hard to get their wings level at touch down.
This awesome P-47 powered by a DLE 55 took minor damage to the landing gear and was quickly repaired and was flying again in the afternoon.
