Olympus' Future Creation Laboratory displayed a prototype of its Mobile Eye-Trek at Digital Content Expo 2008 held at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo between October 23 and 26.
The company has designed this product with an entirely new idea to offer the see-through function based on what is called the "eye partitioning" method. LCD images are reflected on a 3.2mm-wide small optical bar located in front of pupils. The user can have the 100% range of view, while watching a 3.8-inch screen located 50cm ahead.
For the first time in the world, Olympus' Future Creation Laboratory has its head mounted display Mobile Eye-Trek completely wireless. Mobile Eye-Trek is a wearable display device representing the lab's proposing "Inspired Ubiquitous Service." The device helps the user to dynamically acquire information that can be used to make actions, by wearing it anytime, anywhere.
Olympus' Future Creation Laboratory will apply the prototype to the "Inspired Ubiquitous Service" research it conducts, and Olympus aims to release a commercial version by 2012.
