During a winter afternoon, I drove to the local club airfield.
The sky was covered with clouds and light rain was drizzling.
I prepared my glider and hand launched it into the cloudy sky.
After 10 minutes of climbing I punched through the clouds,
only to find out that there were more clouds above the plane.
At ground level there was no wind at all.
But at that altitude the plane was carried away with speeds over
90 km/h.
I dove anxiously to slip away from the wind.
Getting lower was really hard! The headwind was increasing the glider's airspeed, thus making descending nearly impossible.
I had to move the flaps upwards at full deflection while using the motor to actually get lower.
When I almost reached the clouds, I flew just above their surface for a few minutes.
After that I crawled back into them, below me.
The plane was covered with moisture when it finally got back to
the airfield.
