From a hardware standpoint this isn't much different than other routers at this price point. Where it differs is the interface - it's outstanding.
Unlike other routers that display static web pages this one has something that looks and feels like a modern operating system - configured completely through a web browser.
The feature set is in line with other mid to high end routers, including support for 3x3 AC wireless, OpenVPN, parental controls (including time of access), and quality of service (QOS) for device prioritization.
And because this is made by Synology there are network file sharing features that go above and beyond that of other routers. It's possible to share files via a connected USB drive and/or from an SD card. The USB port also supports cellular modems and can act as a print server (including support for Google Cloud Print).
Performance measures and feels about the same as other AC routers at around its price point.
If you've been looking for a router that offered a more robust interface and has some network file sharing functions, this one is worth considering. But don't consider it a NAS replacement.
