#14: Tektronix MDO4000 Spectrum Analyzer quick comparison to entry level analyzer

This video takes a very brief look at the basic noise floor and sweep speed performance of the spectrum analyzer portion of the new Tektronix MDO4000 Mixed Domain Oscilloscope to a basic entry level swept spectrum analyzer. Both analyzers are set to the same set of settings, and the sweep speed / spectrum update rate are compared. The integrated spectrum analyzer in the MDO is intended to be comparable to the performance of conventional entry level class spectrum analyzers similar to the Agilent ESA-L E4411B that is used in this video for comparison. The Tek MDO is shown to be considerably faster at narrow resolution BW, while also featuring a noise floor that is more than 10dB lower. Note however that my E4411 analyzer is a 75ohm model, and includes a 50-75ohm min-loss pad at the input and it's attenuation is accounted for on the display. Thus, the noise floor of this analyzer is higher than you would see on a 50ohm model. From the E4411 datasheet, the DANL of the 50ohm model is similar to the DANL for the analyzer in the MDO.
The Tektronix MDO is a new class of instrument - it is a 4-channel oscilloscope which also includes 16 digital channels (mini logic analyzer), and one dedicated RF channel (spectrum analyzer). All three of these input domains share a common trigger and acquisition system which makes it possible to simultaneously capture signals in all three domains, all time correlated.
