What's inside the Aomway 15dBi 5.8GHz FPV patch antenna?
Why did this 5.8GHz RHCP FPV patch antenna perform so terribly in my recent antenna shootout video? To try and find out, I pulled it apart.
Inside, I could find no fault but I am rather suspicious of the design of the microstrip phasing circuitry and also the material used to make the patch (epoxy fiberglass instead of glass/teflon).
My recommendation would still be to use a helical in preference to this patch antenna because the helical will:
-- have broader tuning
-- have better circular polarization
-- have much higher gain than this particular patch.
