When Videogames Have No Video: Haptic And Non Visual Games
Imagine playing Halo by sound only! Videogames have prioritized the visual experience at the expense of other senses, and leave out gamers who are visually-impaired. This presentation by Jeff Thompson demonstrates a series of non-visual games he created that use vibration, sound, and other haptic feedback with custom electronics and the Arduino platform. He also talks about design challenges for haptic games, building custom circuits and code for haptic devices, and strategies for creating meaningful game experiences without visuals.
