We’re all very aware of Dan Shake‘s uncanny ability to hypnotise hips at his own beck and call. Our boogie get down from a couple months ago is ample evidence for any naysayers. And here he is, back at it again and twisting the knobs on an exciting new project.
XOA’s MO is to match-make the golden era of 70s Afrobeat and contemporary electronica together. It’s all very tropical, and perfect background music for the cocktail-wielders among you. Whiffs of Floating Points and Bonobo exist, mainly because XOA is equally comfortable backed by a full live band as behind the decks.
Shake003 is titled “AIYE LE” and features afrobeat royalty in Dele Sosimi — yours for the taking in May. Meanwhile, Mr. Shake provides the rejig, implanting a smidgen of Detroit shuffle into an already groovy original.
