Submotion Orchestra is a seven-piece Leeds band which has been active since 2009. They combine electronic, jazz, cinematic, and ambient elements together in a distinct and extremely developed way, and have put together an album which marks another chapter in their musical journey.
"Colour Theory" via Counter Records (ODESZA, Maribou State) is their first full-length since 2014's "Alium", and since the announcement in December the track-list alone has been plenty to impress. With fantastic collaborators like Andrew Ashong, Royce Wood Jr., and Catching Flies, it's clear how high the bar has been set.
"Needs" is the perfect example of the "perfect balance" found by the septet, and we haven't even heard half the full album yet.
I'm pretty hyped.
