AJ 73” Laser 230z - Maiden Flight
This is the maiden flight of the new 73” AJ Laser 230z from Andrew Jesky and AJ Aircraft.
When we heard that Andrew Jesky left 3DHS, we had high hopes that he would start up his own company and offer a plane that would be just as awesome as the series of AJ Slicks he designed for 3DHS. He did not disappoint!
Malcolm was quick to pull the trigger and this is the maiden flight of his new 73” Laser. He’s so pleased with it he’s already bought everything he needs to build the new 93” version as soon as it’s available for purchase (won’t be long!). The plane went together without any nasty surprises and the assembly was pretty much the same as putting together an AJ Slick.
If there is a bonus, the customer service from AJ Aircraft has been amazing. Andrew’s brother actually phoned Malcolm to make sure the plane arrived on time and in perfect condition. Who else does that? It’s a bit soon to be a fan boy but so far so good!
The only complaint so far is that there are no pictures in the manual to walk you through the assembly but if you’ve put together a Slick, you will feel right at home with this one. A manual (no pictures) is available for download. (Hint: you could download a manual for the 71" AJ Slick from 3DHS).
Although it is early days, Malcolm’s first few flights had him smiling a lot. Malcolm never smiles! The only disappointment has come from the Castle Creations ICE2 HV120 ESC that is not playing well with the 28 pole Hacker motor. This is a known issue and Castle has been unable to offer a firmware update to rectify the situation. The result is a loss of about 25-30% of the available power. Most would be well advised to go with a Jeti ESC.
