Brett Rheeder has climbed the ranks over the last few years and established himself as one of mountain biking's elite. After earning the top spot at Crankworx Rotorua and Les 2 Alpes in 2015, he was the sole contender for the Crankworx Triple Crown of Slopestyle heading into Crankworx Whistler. While he ended up coming up just short of the Triple Crown, he still took the overall win for the Crankworx Slopestyle World Tour. Did we also mention that he took home the first X Games MTB Slopestyle gold medal in Munich this year? So what does it take for a small town boy from rural Ontario to rise to the top of the slopestyle world? We caught up with Brett while he was enjoying some rare "down" time at home in Ontario between contests. However, Brett's idea of down time was building a 30-foot-tall drop-in in his back yard to practice his tricks on—or doing his homework as he calls it. With the help of his brother Christopher, his childhood riding buddy Matt Pollington and the Freehub crew, the structure went up in two days and the homework was immediately underway before heading off to the Les 2 Alpes and then Whistler for the final stop of the Crankworx World Tour.
