Take away notes: Get your shots! Bring extra medication to treat the basics like infection, nausea, fever, and flu (we recommend activated charcoal). If you do get hurt, you'll really really really need that travellers insurance, so don't leave home without. If you or a close friend gets seriously injured, think about the implications with getting surgery or any any serious treatments in a foreign country... sometimes it may be wise to cut the trip short and go back home.
